Death, Sleep and Ecstasy

The theme ‘Death, Sleep and Ecstasy’ is a figurative series that explores the thin line between existence and non existence, between being alive and not being alive.
I am struck by the resemblance of the face in ecstasy or orgasm to that of the dying, dead or sleeping, where the body appears vacant… left behind, gone beyond. Painting from found photographs or images I have taken, I explore the ambiguity of these states of being.
